I had contacted Darrel Aune a couple years ago about the awls he makes. I saw them first on page 4 of this article from Outdoors Magazine. http://www.oldjimbo.com/Outdoors-Mag...rt-2-Steel.pdf
He makes some great flint strikers and fire pistons. He sells them on his Primal Connection website. http://www.primalconnection.com/ When a cool little fire striker knife popped up in my Ebay favorite sellers email I remembered the awls. I picked up one of the strikers and emailed him about the awl. They arrived today. The striker knife is real handy. Might make up a leaf shaped necker sheath for it. The triangular awl has a much bigger cocobolo handle than the twisted ones from the article. It is sharp as hell and pierces easily. This one would be better suited to my home leather projects than something I'd pack with me. I might contact him for a smaller handled awl, about half the size. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Curious... Do you know the type of grind that is used on the striker knives? Hollow? Flat? Convex?
Thanks :-) |
