Default Shovel sheath

Made this up for my CS shovel. I left the one I had forever in Utah when I moved. The new ones come with an edge already on them, I don't care for that. It's a shovel first, if I want an edge I'll put it on myself. Hot waxed it to keep the water off.

That Sir,as usual is high test.

I had Cold Steels Bad Axe.
Said name turning out to be prophetic.

Your shovel even in the sheath,
looks better made.

I do have a stainless shovel,
perfectly suitable to both a
partial edge as well as a sheath.

Your inspiration encourages,
me to do likewise.

These shovels are probably the best thing Cold Steel makes. I kept my old one in my truck and used it all the time while camping. I use it to dig, split wood, move burning logs and coals, remove trees. It's especially handy for tree removal. My yard has a lot of small suckers that just keep springing up. With the shovel you can hack them down at ground level without worrying about the edge of your blade.

With this one I used plumbers mesh to slim down the handle a bit. Then I gave it a countersunk lanyard hole. I soaked it in Danish oil and stained it with some Preservawood. When I waxed the sheath I rubbed some of my beeswax formula in as well.

I have one of those shovels and I use it for desuckering trees and all the same sort of things you do because of the same reasons, never need to worry about screwing up a real edge on something else. They also throw sweet, I love to chuck mine into the old picnic table I use as my throwing target (I have it up on end). Makes a very satisfying thunk when it sticks.

Very nice sheath, I just have the stupid cordua one for mine.

I wonder if those suckers would make good arrows.

Do they turn woody while still relatively straight?

I have never hear of Plumbers mesh.
Unless it is a new device to cover up Plumbers crack.

Is it something like a flexible sureform?

It's an abrasive. Comes in a 30 foot roll I think. It's about 2" wide and is usually 120 grit. It's used mainly on copper pipes. Lot's of brands out there.

It's great for sanding round edges on knife handles, etc.

Il Bruche,
Very nicely done on the sheath. Any chance you could do a better detail shot of the clasp for me to look at, or does the cord just lace through the belt loop?

Thank you for the vid/demo of the sheath.

I have two of the older ones that are unsharpened from the factory. one has the old leather sheath CS made, the other needs one os I got some cutin' n' stiching to do.

Very interesting keeper strap you made.

Mine have taken up residence in the two primary vehicles my wife and I use. They work great for the snow we get here in AZ at the 5000+ elevation mark.
